Herlan Bible
This Herlan Bible was submitted by Betty Latta Kitchen. It is in her possession, having been passed down through her family. The family was from Monroe County, Ohio.
"This Bible belonged to my great, great grandfather Jacob Herlan, 1807-1887. He married Jane (Mendenhall) Herlan, 1817-1904, in 1836. They lived and raised their family in Guernsey County, Ohio.
On the inside of the back cover it says, "Jacob Herlans Book." Although the book is an entire Bible, the first page is gone. The inscriptions are right behind the page that begins the New Testament.
Although all the entries, except the deaths, are in the same handwriting, the spelling varies. There is a JAEN and a JANE, a NOVEMB, and a NOVEMBER. The spelling of July (GULI) probably reflects Jacobs German background."
